rice krispy treat ice cream

 

A few years ago, I made my first batch of homemade ice cream. On a whim, I concocted a flavor I was surprised hadn't existed before: Rice Krispy Treat Ice Cream. With a vanilla base and mini marshmallows, I have to admit it was pretty good. It could have been a lot better, though, and I planned on eventually improving it.

Last month I reinvented the recipe and entered it in a contest held by LA Creamery, a local artisan ice cream shop. The recipe comprised a brown butter ice cream base, marshmallow swirl and rice krispies.

Today I found out that my flavor is the runner-up in their contest and the ice cream is in rotation at the shops here in LA! I have yet to taste it, but I'm told it's very good. I can't wait to dig in to a bowl myself.
