eggs in a hole

I may have found a new favorite breakfast food: Eggs in a hole. There's something so wonderfully satisfying about that fried egg nestled safely in the middle of a piece of crusty bread. I enjoyed the dish at Canelé over the weekend, but I've got a feeling I'll be frying it up in my own kitchen soon.

That looks so DELICIOUS. I interviewed Mario Batali once (via email, in a very unimpressive way) and he said makes egg in a hole for his kids all the time. Makes me wish I were one of his kids right now.
I was introduced to Egg in a Hole when I was a kid. My mom made them for the family. When Momma passed away, Dad kept the tradition alive. Years later, I met a man (my hubby) whose mom made them for him. Now we make them for each other. My mom called them Eggs in a Basket. My dad, an avid golfer, calls them A Hole in One. I've also heard them called a Frog in the Hole. My honey and I call them Love Nests.
